Staff Meeting Fast Write

Wednesday, August 5, 2009

For our staff meeting on 7/21, we drew tarot cards from the Motherpeace Tarot deck. Even though I was reluctant to use tarot cards when I was first introduced to them, I soon learned that my reluctance was the result of me only knowing one story about the tarot. I thought they were part of a cheap parlor trick carried out by shysters with lots of scarves and spooky names that started with Madame.

But I had internalized a version of the story created by the dominant culture. Once I was able to let go of that version, I realized that the tarot offered me another tool to tap into my intuition, a way to look at a situation with a fresh perspective. It is not a demonic tool of divination, it is a creative way to approach a situation.

That said, I drew the STRENGTH card in our staff meeting. Here is the fastwrite that followed.

I am struck by what cards we drew at this table, and what cards we didn't draw. There's a lot of representation from the earth end of things, which makes sense to me because those people are the "boots on the ground" carrying the day to day work forward and getting their hands dirty. Mary's card was a fire card; carrying a vision is what she does best. Neelu has fire too -- she has brought us vision too and she has blossomed with the freshness and joy she brings.

I not quite as sure about my own card. That's the second time I've drawn it, the first time was during an FLA session. On Sunday, I meditated on the question, "What am I missing?" and drew the High Priestess. I am wondering if that card was the "what" and this card represents "how" to integrate what I'm missing.

I am happy for to see to see all of the earth; I have been feeling untethered lately. Last week was good for me, working with Kathy and making measurable progress. Now I'm starting to see that we are indeed moving in the right direction and that we are making more progress that we realize.
